Is your local salon breaking the law?

You may be unaware, but since 2010 it’s been illegal to allow anyone under the age of 18 to use a sunbed. And there’s a good reason why it’s illegal!

Sunbed salons are everywhere you look in Liverpool, and as a result and you could be forgiven for thinking that they’re safe and legal.

But often this is not the case. It’s illegal to allow under 18s to use sunbeds. This law is in place to protect young people from the huge health risks that sunbeds can cause.

They expose the body to intense artificial UV radiation that can cause cancer and this risk is particularly high in young people who have delicate skin that can be easily damaged.

In fact, using a sunbed for the first time before the age of 35 can increase the risk of skin cancer by 59%

Although some salons reportedly accept letters of consent from parents they are still breaking the law if they allow anyone under 18 to use a sunbed.

Quotes:

“I CAN’T BELIEVE THE SALONS ARE GETTING AWAY WITH IT”

”The salons never said anything about it, I thought it was fine!”
